Scratch to Reveal: Exploring Sgraffito with Thick Paint
Love working with texture and paint?
In this playful painting workshop, we’ll explore the Sgraffito technique.
Using acrylics on paper, we’ll apply several thick layers with a spatula, then carve into the paint with notched tools, forks, or skewers to reveal the hidden colors underneath. It’s expressive and incredibly satisfying.
You’ll discover how to:
- Build rich, textured surfaces using layered acrylic paint
- Balance color and contrast for striking results
- Experiment with different tools and marks for unique effects
A detailed materials list is provided in the classroom, which you'll get access to right after checkout – but basically, you just need paper, acrylics, a flat spatula (or an old credit card), and something to scrape with – a fork, or pieces of cardboard cut with little notches, kind of like a toothed trowel.
You’ll also receive a recording so you can revisit the class anytime.
Come scratch, scrape, and enjoy creating vibrant, textured art!
